Level The Lobbying Playing Field campaign launch

Together we can create a more open, balanced, and equitable future for Aotearoa.

8 April 2025 at 05:30

Online Webinar

This was an in-person event. This campaign builds on the work that we did in our report Shining a Light: Improving transparency in New Zealand’s political and governance systems.

We all want to live in a country where decisions are made openly, fairly and in the best interests of everyone. By strengthening protections for transparency, balance and accountability we can build greater trust in government and ensure all voices are heard – not just the most powerful.

Lobbying plays a legitimate role in democracy, but without clear regulations – like those used in most other OECD countries – hidden influence and unfair advantages can shape policies in ways that don’t serve the public good. It’s time to fix this together.

We need voices from across Aotearoa – business and community leaders, advocates, policy experts and everyday people – to help shape a system that works for everyone.

Join us to learn about our plan to bring New Zealand into line with international best practice and protect the integrity of public decision making.

Expect inspiring speakers, meaningful discussions and a clear plan of action to ensure that decisions affecting our health, environment and future are made in the public interest.

Together, we can create a more open, balanced, and equitable future for Aotearoa.

The speakers are:

  • Helen Clark – Patron, The Helen Clark Foundation
  • Christopher Finlayson – KC Bankside Chambers
  • Anne Tolley – Chair Transparency International  NZ
  • Moana Tuwhare – GM Ngāpuhi

This event was in collaboration with the Health Coalition Aotearoa and Transparency International New Zealand.
